Configuring Dual-GPU Setups for Modeling and Rendering
How Lumion Allocates the GPU If your PC workstation has two different graphics cards (e.g., an NVIDIA GeForce and an NVIDIA Quadro), Lumion will automatically use the graphics card that is connected to the physical monitor on which the Lumion window first opens.
If you want your CAD software (e.g., Revit) to run on the Quadro card while Lumion runs simultaneously on the GeForce card to maximize performance, you cannot simply plug monitors into different ports. You must explicitly force the CAD application to use the specific card via the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Routing Software via NVIDIA Control Panel Follow these steps to manually assign your 3D modeling software to the secondary graphics card:
- Ensure the NVIDIA Control Panel app is installed (usually installed automatically with your GPU drivers).
- Right-click on an empty area of your Windows desktop and open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- On the left-hand navigation pane, select Manage 3D Settings.
- Click on the Program Settings tab at the top.
- Click the Add button and locate the executable file for your 3D modeling application (For example,
Revit.exelocated inC:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 20xx). - Under the Select the preferred graphics processor for this program dropdown, assign the specific card (e.g., the NVIDIA Quadro).
- Apply the settings and restart your 3D modeling software.
- If multiple users share this workstation, you must repeat these steps for each Windows User Account profile on the PC.
