1. What is Virtual Memory?
When working on complex Projects, Lumion may sometimes run out of Graphics Card Memory and System Memory (for example when importing a very large model).
If that happens, it will start to use Virtual Memory. This memory type relies on allocating some free space on the hard disk for virtual storage when the above memory is all used. We recommend at least 50 GB, and for very complex Projects from 100 GB to 150 GB.
Please follow the instructions below if we ask you to increase the amount of Virtual Memory.
IMPORTANT: The Virtual Memory will take up the amount of space in the selected drive.
Please so make sure that there is plenty of free file space for the increase. If you selected the drive where your Documents folder is located (usually C:), verify that you have more than 30GB of free space after you have made the change, as that is necessary for Windows and Lumion to work properly.
2. Here's how to increase the amount of Virtual Memory:
2.1: Click on the Windows Start button, type the word "performance" on the search bar and select 'Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows'.
2.2: In the 'Performance Options' window, go to the 'Advanced' tab and click on 'Change' under Virtual Memory.
2.3: Select a drive with enough free space, click on 'Custom size' and enter the value we suggested in both the 'Initial size' and the 'Maximum size' fields.
2.4: Uncheck the 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives' option, then Click on 'Set', then 'OK', and restart the PC.
