Thanks for contacting us at Lumion Technical Support.

 

Just a quick clarification before we begin: the MSI installer for the Lumion LiveSync for Revit plugin is compiled by Autodesk. Our developer provides them with the raw plugin files, and Autodesk handles the packaging and distribution.

 

There is a recent change where the plugin installs only for the current user instead of all users, which stems from updates on Autodesk’s side. While we don’t have direct control over how the installer is compiled, we do have a reliable workaround to ensure the plugin is available system-wide.

 

When installed using the default method, the plugin may end up in:

 

C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\

This means it only works for the specific user who installed it. If they log out or switch users, the plugin doesn’t appear in Revit for others.

 

Option 1: Manually Move the Plugin to ProgramData

1.1 Go to the User Plugin Folder
Navigate to: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\

 

1.2. Copy the Plugin Folder: LumionLiveSyncForRevit.bundle

 

1.3. Paste it into ProgramData
Navigate to: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\

 

1.4. Check Folder Permissions

  • Right-click the folder > Properties > Security tab.

  • Make sure "Users" have Read & Execute permissions to allow access for all user accounts.

 

Option 2: Force System-Wide Installation via Command Prompt

 

This option ensures the plugin is installed directly into the ProgramData folder for all users.

 

2.1 Uninstall Existing Version
If it is already installed, uninstall it by following the instructions in our article below:

 

 

2.2 Open Command Prompt (Run > CMD)

2.3 Navigate to the Folder with the MSI Installer
For example: cd "C:\Users\USERNAME\Downloads"

 

2.4 Run the Installer with ProgramData Path: msiexec /i LumionLiveSyncForRevit_3.60.544.msi AUTODESK="C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\"



The plugin will now be placed in:C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ and will be available to all users on the system.
