1. Versions prior to 2024.4.2
1.1: The Error Message
You get an error message from Lumion when trying to Load a Project file:
"Error: Missing Movie Manager"
Applicable to: versions 2024.4.1 and earlier.
Lumion 12 and earlier might not show the message, but the conditions about the content (1.2), as below, may be from the same cause (see Cause 1.3.1)
1.2: Content Conditions
If you click on the OK button you notice that one or a combination of these exist in the Project file:
- There is no content.
- The screens in the Modes can be black.
- The Imported Model is missing.
- Other content is missing.
1.3: Cause
1.3.1: Cause 1 - Saving the Project in an earlier version
When you have more than one PC using Lumion, then it is possible that one or more of them have not yet Updated to the same version as the one that the file was saved in.
For example, if the file was saved in Lumion 2024.4.0 and you are trying to open it in Lumion 2024.3.0, or 2024.4.1.
This occurs because data is not backward compatible to the minor version. The older version does not understand the data which can have support for new data types, Effects, and features.
This should usually not occur if the Update is a patch: eg 2024.4.1.1.
1.3.2: Cause 2 - Know issue for Custom HDR Real Skies images
There is a known issue where more than 13 Custom Real Sky HDR images at high resolutions - 16K, can affect the saving of the data.

2. Lumion 2024.4.2 and Newer:
Lumion 2024.4.2 now provides a message that you are trying to Load the Project file in a version that is older than the one it was saved in.
3. How to Fix:
3.1: Update Lumion to the latest version
Ensure all PCs with Lumion are Updated to the latest version.
Use the Updater to do that as it is quick and easy to update only for changes needed:
- Knowledge Base: How does the Updater for Lumion work?
Once updated, the Project file should open without issue.
3.2: Saved Incorrectly?
If, however, for some reason the file has been saved in an old version, then you will need to recover the Project file from your backups.
