The following applies to LiveSync version 3 or newer and to Lumion 12.5 or older.
For Lumion 2023.1 and newer please see this article:
1. Here's how
1.1: LiveSync uses the name of the model
LiveSync will check if the model in Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, ArchiCAD, or Vectorworks is similar to any of the models in the current Lumion Project. It will do this so that a direct update to the model in Lumion can be made.
Lumion uses the model file name to check if models are the same or different before attempting to resume a LiveSync connection. If the model file name or location has changed significantly, you will need to re-establish the LiveSync connection manually.
To see how to do that, please refer to the section below that applies to the 3D/CAD application that you are using:
2. LiveSync re-connection rules for SketchUp 2017 and newer
2.1: SketchUp: Same name and location
Lumion will resume the LiveSync connection if the SketchUp file name and location haven't changed the next time you load that Project and click on Start LiveSync in SketchUp.
Example:
Day 1: C:\MyModel_001.skp
Day 2: C:\MyModel_001.skp
How to re-connect: Click on Start LiveSync in SketchUp to re-connect.
______________________________________
2.2: SketchUp: New name and/or location
If you have saved the SketchUp file under a new name (where the first 5 characters of the name are different) and/or if you have saved the SketchUp file in a new location, you will have to select the SketchUp model in the Lumion Project and re-import the .SKP file. The next time you click on Start LiveSync in SketchUp, the connection will be re-established.
Example:
Day 1: C:\MyModel.SKP
Day 2: D:\MyNewModel.SKP
How to re-connect: Re-import the new .SKP file before clicking on Start LiveSync in SketchUp.
______________________________________
2.3: SketchUp: New name in the same location
If you have saved the SketchUp file in the same location but under a new name, and at least 5 consecutive characters of the new name match the old name from the last time the LiveSync connection was running, Lumion will offer you the option to re-connect via LiveSync.
Example:
Day 1: C:\MyModel_001.SKP
Day 2: C:\MyModel_002.SKP
Example:
Day 1: C:\001_MyModel.SKP
Day 2: C:\MyModel_002.SKP
How to re-connect: Re-connect via LiveSync by selecting the model and clicking on the Re-connect to LiveSync button in the Object Options panel in the top right corner.
