1. Lumion 2023 and newer
1.1: For Rasterization rendering
1 Star: Draft quality:
Everything on, no anti-aliasing.
2 Star: Good quality:
Everything on, 4x anti-aliasing.
3 Star: Production quality:
Everything on, 8x anti-aliasing.
4 Star: Production quality:
Everything on, 16x anti-aliasing.
1.2: Samples rendered for Ray Traced rendering
At the bottom of the rendering screen, Lumion shows two values.
Example:
Say for example you chose a Sample in the Ray Tracing Effect of 512.
1. The first number is the total Samples from the Ray Tracing Effect (example 512). It increases from 0 to the number of Ray Tracing Effect - Samples.
2. The second number is the calculated maximum Samples for a render at the selected Output Quality you have chosen.
For your 2 Star example: there are 4 samples AA, and the quality to render at ratio is 16/4 = 4. The maximum number of samples to render is: 512/4 = 128.
Ray Tracing: 512 Samples, Output Quality Stars selected: 4 (16 AA) = 512 samples.
Ray Tracing: 512 Samples, Output Quality Stars selected: 3 (8 AA) = 256 samples.
Ray Tracing: 512 Samples, Output Quality Stars selected: 2 (4 AA) = 128 samples.
Ray Tracing: 512 Samples, Output Quality Stars selected: 1 (0 AA) = 1 sample.
When rendering with the Denoiser options then see this article, Section 2.4.3: Summary of Denoiser Options:

2. Lumion 12:
1 Star: Draft quality:
Everything on, no anti-aliasing.
2 Star: Good quality:
Everything on, 4x anti-aliasing.
3 Star: Production quality:
Everything on, 8x anti-aliasing.
4 Star: Production quality:
Everything on, 16x anti-aliasing.
3. Lumion 8 to 11:
1 Star quality: Draft quality
Sky, sun, and clouds will remain static. Rendering with a Sun Effect or a Sun Study Effect requires 2 Star quality (or better) to animate the sun position. The following features and Effects will be rendered at draft quality:
- Anti-aliasing.
- Shadows.
- Depth of Field Effect.
- Motion Blur Effect.
- Global Illumination.
- Hyperlight Effect.
- Sky Light 2 Effect.
- Volume Clouds Effect.
- Leaves on trees/plants.
- Semi-transparent materials.
2 Star quality: Good quality
The following features and Effect will be rendered at draft quality:
- Anti-aliasing.
- Shadows.
- Depth of Field Effect.
- Motion Blur Effect.
- Global Illumination.
- Hyperlight Effect.
- Sky Light 2 Effect.
- Volume Clouds Effect.
- Leaves on trees/plants.
- Semi-transparent materials.
3 Star quality: Production quality with 4 sub-samples
The following features and Effects will be rendered with 4 sub-samples per frame:
- Anti-aliasing.
- Shadows.
- Depth of Field Effect.
- Motion Blur Effect.
- Global Illumination.
- Hyperlight Effect.
- Sky Light 2 Effect.
- Volume Clouds Effect.
- Leaves on trees/plants.
- Semi-transparent materials.
4 Star quality: Production quality with 8 sub-samples
The following features and Effects will be rendered with 8 sub-samples per frame:
- Anti-aliasing.
- Shadows.
- Depth of Field Effect.
- Motion Blur Effect.
- Global Illumination.
- Hyperlight Effect.
- Sky Light 2 Effect.
- Volume Clouds Effect.
- Leaves on trees/plants.
- Semi-transparent materials.
5 Star quality: Production quality with 16 sub-samples
The following features and Effects will be rendered with 16 sub-samples per frame:
- Anti-aliasing.
- Shadows.
- Depth of Field Effect.
- Motion Blur Effect.
- Global Illumination.
- Hyperlight Effect.
- Sky Light 2 Effect.
- Volume Clouds Effect.
- Leaves on trees/plants.
- Semi-transparent materials.
4. Lumion 7.5 and older:
The 5-star system that is described in section 2 also applies to Lumion 7.5 and older versions.
In addition, please note the following:
When rendering Movies, the clouds, moon, and stars are rendered at a lower quality setting by default, regardless of the Final output quality setting.
To set the sky to the best possible render quality when rendering Movies, please add a Cloud Effect and turn on HQ Clouds in movie render (slow). Please note that this will prolong the time it takes to render your Movie.
Note: Rendering in Panorama Mode was also subject to some further limitations, even at the highest Star Quality, of which Effects were possible for 360 rendering for versions up to V11.
