There are four ways to transfer materials:
The Materials Menu is split into the Material Library and Material Settings Editor:
Common features are present in the Material Settings Editor at all times:
All Materials also have a Context Menu:
- Copying and pasting material.
- Saving and loading a material from a file.
- Saving and loading a Material Set from a file.
- Saving, loading, and deleting a Custom Material from a file.
- Please note that textures with the yellow triangle exclamation mark warning icon can't be copied or saved to a material file because they were assigned to the model in your 3D/CAD software outside of Lumion.
1. Copying and pasting:
Lumion makes it easier than ever to copy and paste materials.
1.1: Use the Copy and Paste buttons to transfer the material to a different surface:
2. Saving and loading a Material File:
2.1: Use the Save and Load buttons to transfer the material to a different surface in the current Project, or to a different Imported Model in another Project using the '.LMAT' Material File:
3. Saving and loading a Material Set file:
You can save all of the materials of an Imported Model to a Material Set file, either for backup purposes or because you want to transfer all or some of the materials to a different Imported Model.
Materials are saved to an '.LMS' Material Set file.
To make sure the materials are transferred to the right surfaces, Lumion uses the Imported Material names from your 3D/CAD software to find matches.
For that reason, it is a good idea to consistently use specific material names for your favorite materials when working on materials in your 3D/CAD software.
Earlier versions of Lumion saved the Material Set file with an MTT file extension. From version 2023.1.0 you can Load the MTT file directly in Lumion 2023. See section 3.3 Load a Material Set, below.
3.1: Use the Materials Editor
To save or load a Material Set, select the Materials tab in Build Mode:
3.2: Save a Material Set
3.2.1: Click on an Imported Model that you have assigned some Lumion materials.
3.2.2: Click on the Save Material Set button.
3.3: Load a Material Set
3.3.1: Click on the Load Material Set button to load all of the materials of an '.LMS' Material Set file:
A Windows File Open dialogue is displayed for you to select the LMS file (or prior to Lumion 2023.0, the MTT file).
3.3.2: The materials saved in the Material Set is shown.
3.3.3: You can see which surface(s) a material matches by moving your mouse over the Material Set item, for example, when over the Glass Material. Lumion will highlight the surface with light blue.
3.3.: Select those materials you want to apply to the selected Imported Model.
3.3.5: Click on the Apply Tick button or Cancel 'X' button if you do not want to apply any of the materials.
3.3.6: Lumion will then apply the material settings to the surface(s) of the Imported Model that has a matching Material Name.
4. Saving and loading a material for Custom Materials:
4.1: Save
4.1.1: Use the Context Menu and click on the Save to Custom Materials button to save a copy of the Custom Material:
4.1.2: Enter a name for your material in the Save Material screen:
4.1.3: Select (if available) or enter a Category folder name for the Custom Material:
4.1.4: File Saved Location
The Custom Material file will be saved in a subfolder for those materials. For example:
C:\Users\[yourUserName]\Documents\Lumion\Materials\Custom\
4.2: Load
This material can now be loaded and assigned to other surfaces of a model from the main Materials Editor:
4.3: Search
You can use the Search feature to locate materials by name. The scope will be for the tab selected. For example, a Search for Concrete when the Custom Materials tab is selected will return all those that are Custom Materials.
4.4: Delete
Double-click on the Delete Material button:
Applies to:
Lumion 2024, Lumion 2023
