Lumion 2023 now supports importing animated Camera Paths. This is immensely useful for users that create complex camera movements in their 3D modeling application and want to bring them into Lumion together with the model.
Here's how to do it:
1. In Movie Mode, select an empty Clip and click on Import Camera Path:
2. Then click on the 'Browse File' button to select and import a model that has Camera data:
Currently, Lumion can import Camera movement paths and orientation angles from the following applications:
- 3DS MAX
FBX or .MAX format. - BLENDER
.FBX format. (needs to have a motion path calculated in order for it to be imported)
3. After the file is imported, you can select from the drop-down menu all the cameras stored in that model:
If you don't get any camera options that means your model does not have any camera data or the format is not yet supported. The 3d modeling software you are exporting from needs to have an equivalent to a 3DS Max or Blender 'Physical Camera'.
4. Once you select a camera, it can be positioned using the Move Gizmo in Free Cam or by manually typing the X/Y/Z positional values and adjusting the Path Heading slider.
If you want a preview of the Camera view, click on the On Path Path button:
If you have trouble locating the camera, click on the Focus on Camera button:
5. To finalize the Clip, click on Save Clip.
Here's an example from Blender.
Notes:
- The time length of the Clip will be determined by that set in the original 3D software.
- Focal Lenght data is currently not imported.
- If you have the Handheld Camera Effect active with the Look at Fixed Point setting turned on, that will override the camera target from the imported camera.
