What kind of computer does Lumion 2024 and newer need?

mceclip2.png

1. To have a great experience with Lumion 2024 and the new version 2025, you will need:

  • A modern computer with a high-performance dedicated NVIDIA, AMD or Intel* graphics card.
  • Internet access.
  • A computer that meets or exceeds the Recommended, or High-end system requirements (depending on your needs).

Note: there are no changes in hardware requirements for Lumion 2025 from those for Lumion 2024/2023/Lumion 12.

This article was prepared during 2024 for Lumion 2024.  We will be updating it for more recent hardware releases by the manufacturers soon. In the meantime, this guide is still relevant.

* Intel: A series or newer B series; A580 or B580 or better cards only.

2. How does each hardware component affect Lumion?

Graphics card

The graphics card is the single most important component for Lumion and is used for drawing 3D data on-screen and rendering. Having a graphics card with an adequate level of performance is essential for a great Lumion experience and render outcomes.

It needs to be a dedicated system and not onboard graphics.

Graphics card memory

The more graphics card memory is available the more details, textures, and models can be loaded, processed, and rendered by your graphics card.

CPU (processor)

The CPU plays a role in telling the graphics card what to show you on your screen, and it will be working hard while you are editing your Project. The more details and objects you have in your Project, the more instructions your CPU needs to send to your graphics card.

System memory (RAM)

Your RAM plays a role when a Project or model is loaded in Lumion. The more RAM you have, the bigger and more detailed these loaded Scenes and models can be.

Hard drive

The speed of your Hard Drive plays a big role in how fast your models and Projects are loaded. The faster, the better. NVME SSD drives are the latest technology.

Power supply

A power supply provides the whole system with the electrical current at specific wattage and voltages. It must be able to give each component enough to run well. If it doesn't, the PC may turn itself off, restart, or run at a lower performance to compensate.

Screen/Monitor Resolution

1920 x 1080 pixels (minimum)

Your screen resolution may be higher than 1920 x 1080, however, this will impact performance if other Settings are not changed.

2.1:  Required Windows version and graphics card drivers:

Note: Lumion 2024 requires a Windows operating system, using Windows 10 version 2004 (Build 19041) or newer, or Windows 11 version 21H2 (Build 22000) or newer.

Important:
Insider Preview builds of Windows are pre-release versions that are intended for testing only and can be unstable. They are not recommended for use as a primary operating system and are not guaranteed to work with Lumion.

To see which version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 you currently have installed, click on the Windows button and select Settings -> System -> About, to see the version number.

Recommended versions:

The most recent graphics card driver available.  Ensure the drivers are updated by using an auto-update feature or checking on the manufacturers driver web site.

Minimum Versions:

Recent graphics card drivers are also strictly required. These are minimum versions.  Refer to our main article:

Lumion 2025:

  • NVIDIA: At least version 551.23 (Released on 24/1/2024)
  • AMD: At least version 24.1.1 (Released on 23/1/2024)
  • Intel (A580 or newer B580): At least version 32.0.101.6739, Released 4/25/2025)

Lumion 2024:

  • NVIDIA: At least version 551.23 (Released on 24/1/2024)
  • AMD: At least version 24.1.1 (Released on 23/1/2024)

Note: Lumion 2024 and 2025: for Nvidia RTX 5000 series cards you need to install driver version 576.02 first, then apply the hotfix for version 576.15 .  See this article.

3. Raytracing:

Lumion 2025 (and the prior version 2024) comes equipped with Raytracing capabilities, however, to use this feature, a graphics card that supports this technology is required.

GPUs that support hardware-accelerated raytracing.  NVidia, AMD, Intel(Lumion 2025 only).

Lumion 2025 now supports Ray Tracing for (some) Intel dedicated graphics cards.

Note that Ray Tracing is an optional feature. It is still possible to use Lumion 2025/2024 even if your graphics card does not support Ray Tracing.  You just won't be able to make use of the Ray Tracing Effect but you can still render using the Rasterization rendering pipeline.
