How do you resolve OpenStreetMap errors?

1. Unable to access and download OpenStreetMap data:

1.1:  Are you using a Proxy?

The OpenStreetMap functionality in Lumion requires a direct HTTP connection to the domains in 1.2 below.

If a proxy server is used, a direct connection is not possible, and the OpenStreetMap function in Lumion will not work.

Please click on the following link to check if you are accessing the internet via a proxy server:

If so, please ask your IT administrator to disable the proxy server if you would like to use the OpenStreetMap functionality. Alternatively, please contact your internet service provider for information on how to disable proxy servers.

1.2: Port Access:

Please make sure that Lumion is allowed to access the following addresses and ports through your network router, anti-virus software and firewall software:

  • osm-tile-service.lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • lumiondemdata.lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • osm-preview-maps.lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • osm-preview-maps-sec.lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • lumiondemdata.lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • .lumion3d.net (port 443)
  • atlas.microsoft.com (port 443)
  • *.mapbox.com (port 80)
  • server.arcgisonline.com (port 80)
  • elevation3d.arcgis.com (port 80)
  • tiledbasemaps.arcgis.com (port 80)

If you are using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) then also make sure it is allowing full access for the above.

1.3: Are you using Lumion 8.5 or older?

1.3.1:  Lumion 8.0/8.3/8.5:

The OSM.org recently (September 2023) changed their download policy for security reasons.  This change means that these versions of Lumion are no longer able to be supported by the protocols for downloading the OpenStreetMap data.

Our apologies but this is out of our hands and not fixable in those old versions.

1.3.2: Older than 7.5:

Changes by the withdrawal of third-party services in January 2018 resulted in the download of the map and building height data no longer being possible for versions older than 7.5.  A patch was provided for versions 7.5 and 8.0 affected at the time.

1.3.3: Please contact us for further advice on your options:

1.4: If this does not resolve the problem, please download the following small test app which will show you which addresses the OpenStreetMap function is being prevented from contacting:

1.5: If the Map does not show in the Map area then it is possible that in some regions of the world, access is being prevented by your local ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Please check with them that there are no blockages to our domains, as above.

1.6: Unzip OpenStreetMapSpeedTest.exe and place it in your Lumion (Version) installation folder, right-click on it and select 'Run as administrator' to run it:

1.7: When the test is finished, a .TXT log file has been created in the same folder with more details about the websites that Lumion is being prevented from accessing. Please forward the .TXT file to your IT administrator, so that he/she can ensure that Lumion is allowed to contact the blocked addresses.

Alternatively, please contact the manufacturer of your security/firewall software for information on how to whitelist websites and open ports.

1.8: If you get a 'Code 33' error, it means that you did not place the OpenStreetMapSpeedTest.exe file in your Lumion installation folder.

2.0 Using OpenStreetMap results in a crash:

OpenStreetMap is not compatible with Intel 11th generation processors and newer due to updates to the Intel SSL encryption.

Applies to: Lumion 10.5 and older.

Need our guidance if using one of those versions?
