Model import guidelines for Blender

mceclip0.png

Please note that Lumion does not officially support Blender.

1. Method A: Export a '.FBX' file

1.1: Export your Blender model to a '.FBX' file and import it in Lumion:

File -> Export -> '.FBX'

An animated model needs to be exported to a '.FBX' format at 25 frames per second. Simple move/rotate/scale animations are supported. Bone and morph animations are not supported.

1.2: Use one of these options for textures applied to surfaces so the texture is available to load with the model:

  • Include the texture file in the same folder as the FBX model.
  • Use the export setting for FBX of Path Mode -> Copy.

2. Method B: Export a '.DAE' file

1.1: Export your Blender model to a '.DAE' file (Collada format) and import it in Lumion:

File -> Export -> Collada...

3. Tips & Troubleshooting

3.1: Why can't you see the model after importing and placing it in your Project?

  • The Insertion Point for the Imported Model in Lumion corresponds to 0,0,0 in Blender.
  • If a model is far away from the Insertion Point in Lumion, you need to move the model closer to 0,0,0 in Blender, before exporting it to Lumion.

3.2: Why can't you assign a Lumion material to individual surfaces?

  • Lumion will always combine surfaces that use the same material in Blender. If you want to assign a Lumion material to a specific surface, you must assign a unique material to that surface in Blender before importing the model.
