How do you get the latest Upgrade or Update of Lumion?

Important information: Lumion 2025.0.2 is only available via a full installation.

This is because there have recently been some key improvements to the way Lumion handles updates. To make this possible, the update system had to be upgraded, but this resulted in older versions of 2025 not being able to be updated directly to 2025.0.2. 

We know this is an extra step, and we really appreciate your understanding. The good news is that this one-time change will ensure future updates can be delivered more easily for everyone going forward.

To get the latest fixes and improvements, simply download and install version 2025.0.2 from your Lumion Account. Installing this version will overwrite your current version.

1. How do you get the latest update? 

We regularly release new versions of Lumion with improvements, error fixes, content, and new functionality.

If you are not sure about what version you are using then see this article:

 

An Update is a change within the same major version.  For example, in Lumion 2023 there was an update from 2023.0 to 2023.1, 2023.2, 2023.3 and 2023.4.

When major new updates of Lumion are released, we automatically send an email as a notification to the address that you entered when you purchased Lumion.  The email is titled Getting started with Lumion.

As of Lumion 2023.0 new updates following the release of this new version will be available via the new Updater system.

The same occurs for Lumion 2024.

If you own a Subscription License Key then any Update that is released during the period of your Subscription Plan and your License Key is still Active/Upgraded will automatically receive notification of the new version and we would recommend installing it once you are happy with the changes. 

Technical Support will be focused on support of the most recent Upgrades and Updates.

Do not try to use the Upgrade page on our website for an Update.

Students:

Students automatically receive the email for the latest update when it is available to students.

 

2. How do you install the latest Update?

If you have already installed Lumion 2023 and newer and there is an update, then the Updater system will notify you of that change, depending on the option to auto-download.  See this article:

For older versions than Lumion 2023:

Each new main release is a stand-alone version of Lumion that must be installed in a new folder (never in the same folder as an existing installation).

You do not have to uninstall older versions of Lumion to install a newer version.  However, you should do so to save file space once you are happy with the new update.

 

3.  Upgrades:

An upgrade is a change from one major version to another major version.  For example, upgrading from version 12 to version Lumion 2024, or from Lumion 2023 to Lumion 2024.

If you own a Perpetual License Key you can continue to use the older commercial License Key for as long as you want.  You do not have to Upgrade to the latest version if you do not want to.   However, we strongly recommend doing so to ensure you have all the best and latest.

If you own a Subscription License Key then any Upgrade that is released during the period of your Subscription Plan and your License Key is still Active/Upgraded will automatically receive notification of the new version and we would recommend installing it once you are happy with the changes.

4.  Update/Upgrade to Lumion 2025

4.1: Download from your Lumion Account as a Full installation.

Once successful your Lumion has been Upgraded to Lumion 2025.

For installs of 2025.0.2 (only), please see the above note Important information.

Very Important: Please note that Projects and models saved in the latest version of Lumion are not backward compatible and cannot be opened in older versions of the software.

We strongly recommend keeping a backup of your files before upgrading, in case you need to continue working in a previous version.
