Lumion 2025 introduces a new pricing system that accommodates two products (Lumion View alongside Lumion Pro) and two different License Key types (named-user and floating). The FAQ below tackles some of the common questions that new and existing users may have.
Disclaimer on product names:
- Lumion (old) Subscription, also referred to as Lumion Pro/Standard (old) = the Subscription Keys issued until the 29th of April 2025
- Lumion View = a small, lightweight rendering plugin used within an application that leverages ray tracing technology
- Lumion View Subscription = a Subscription to Lumion View
- Lumion Pro = a full rendering solution that includes advanced tools and a built-in Library
- Lumion Pro Subscription = the Licenses issued starting with the 29th of April 2025
- Lumion Studio = a bundle of Lumion View and Lumion Pro
- Lumion Studio Subscription = a Subscription that includes both products (Lumion View and Lumion Pro), where Lumion View has named-user Seats and Lumion Pro has floating Seats.

1. New Users:
1.1: What is the difference between Lumion View, Pro and Studio?
Lumion View: is a lightweight rendering plugin that works directly in your 3D modelling software. Currently it is available for SketchUp but will be expanded to more software.
Lumion Pro: is the full rendering solution with named-user assignment that provides all the necessary tools for rendering.
Lumion Studio: is a bundle of Lumion View and Lumion Pro, however, instead of named-user Seats for Lumion Pro, it gives users floating Seats
1.2: Can I purchase Lumion View and Pro separately?
Yes, that is possible. However, the two products will have different Licenses. License management is easier if both products are associated under a Lumion Studio License.
1.3: Can I upgrade Lumion View to Pro?
No, Lumion View and Lumion Pro are two distinct products.
1.4: Can I upgrade Lumion Pro to Lumion Studio?
Yes. Lumion Studio includes both Lumion Pro (with floating Seats) and Lumion View (with named-user Seats). This can be done via the Lumion Account by clicking your License Key and selecting 'Upgrade your Subscription' or, in case you did not purchase via our website, by contacting your local partner.

2. Existing users - Perpetual Licenses:
2.1: Can I upgrade to Lumion View?
No. Lumion View is a product that is purchased separately.
2.2: Can I upgrade to Lumion Pro?
Yes, Lumion Perpetual License Key owners can upgrade to Lumion Pro Subscription. Please visit your Lumion Account -> select your License Key
2.3: Can I upgrade to Lumion Studio?
Yes, Lumion Perpetual License Key owners can upgrade to Lumion Studio Subscription.
3. Existing users - Subscription Licenses (Pro and Standard):
3.1: Will Lumion Standard no longer be available?
Lumion Standard is no longer part of the Lumion product offering. All Lumion Standard Subscription holders are upgraded for free to Lumion Studio until their Subscription is renewed.
3.2: Will Lumion Pro no longer be available?
The Lumion (old) Subscriptions are automatically upgraded to the Lumion Studio Subscription. Purchasing a Subscription only for Lumion Pro is still possible as a named-user Subscription - the product, Lumion Pro, is the only one available in the offering.
3.3: Can I use my projects in Lumion Studio?
Lumion Project (.LS and .LSF files) can be opened in Lumion Studio (the Lumion Pro application) and Lumion Pro (named-user).
3.4: What will happen with my current Subscription term on the 29th of April?
Your Subscription term remains the same but you are upgraded to a different product as such: If you own Lumion Standard Subscription or Lumion (old) Subscription you are upgraded to Lumion Studio.
3.5: Do I have to pay an upgrade fee?
No. The upgrade to Studio is free for all Lumion subscribers currently including Lumion 2024 on the 29th of April 2025.
3.6: Will I still have a floating License?
If you own a Lumion Subscription at the moment of the upgrade, yes, your Lumion Pro Seats are floating. If you want to purchase a new Lumion Subscription you will have the option to choose between:
- Lumion Pro Subscription (with named-user access)
- or
- Lumion Studio Subscription (with named-user access for Lumion View and floating Seats for Lumion Pro)
3.7: Can I upgrade to Lumion Studio?
You are automatically upgraded to Lumion Studio if you have an active Lumion Subscription on the 29th of April (with access to Lumion 2024).
However, if you just purchased a Lumion Pro Subscription with named-user access, then yes, you can upgrade to Lumion Studio via your Lumion Account or, in case you did not purchase via our website, by contacting the local partner.

3.8: Can I downgrade to Lumion View?
No, Lumion View is a different product.
3.9: Can I use my Lumion Pro files in Lumion View?
Lumion View is a plugin and cannot open files - it simply renders the content of your model within the 3D application.
3.10: How many Seats do I get with Lumion Pro?
For upgraded users from Lumion Pro/Standard (old): you will get an equal number of Seats as in your current Subscription.
3.11: Is Lumion View included for free if I purchase Lumion Pro?
If you were upgraded from a Lumion (old) Subscription License Key to a new one on the 29th of April, yes.
3.12: Can I consolidate billing for Lumion View and Pro if purchased separately?
Unfortunately, the billing for products purchased separately cannot be joined under a single invoice.
3.13: Is there a Grace period?
The Grace period is 14 days after the expiry of your Subscription. Please see:

3.14: What access can I expect to my old project, once my Subscription expires?
You can still open your Projects in 'Expired Mode', but you cannot edit them.
3.15: Is there a benefit in renewing rather than letting the Subscription expire and purchasing a new one?
You maintain an uninterrupted workflow in the products.
4. Lumion View Subscriptions:
4.1: Is Lumion View a floating License?
Lumion View authentication is user-based, not floating.
4.2: Can I upgrade Lumion View to Lumion Pro?
Lumion View is a different product from Lumion Pro, therefore, upgrading is not possible.
4.3: Can I upgrade Lumion View to Lumion Studio?
This can be done via your Lumion Account or, in case you did not purchase via our website, by contacting the local partner.
4.4: For which CAD software products can I use Lumion View?
Currently Lumion View is available for SketchUp. A Revit version is in active development and more similar products will follow.
4.5: Do I need an internet connection to use Lumion View?
Yes, user authentication requires an internet connection.
4.6: Can I transfer my Lumion View Seat to another user?
Yes.
If you have available Seats on your License, you can simply assign a Seat to a user. An invite will be sent.
If you have no available Seats on your License, you need to revoke the access of a user to assign a new one or purchase another Seat.

4.7: Is there a trial version of Lumion View available?
4.8: Is there any difference in rendering quality between Lumion View and Pro?
Yes. The products have different rendering engines. While the underlying technology is similar, the results can be expected to be slightly different.
4.9: Can I use Lumion View and Lumion Pro on the same project?
Yes. If you have access to both products, we recommend using Lumion View for the early stages and polishing your final renders in Lumion Pro.
4.10: Do I need a separate License for each CAD software I use with Lumion View?
No, Lumion View is offered for all applications it has been developed for under the same Subscription.
4.11: Can I consolidate billing for Lumion View and Pro if purchased separately?
Unfortunately, the billing for products purchased separately cannot be joined under a single invoice.
4.12: If I use both Lumion View and Lumion Pro, will my scenes/settings sync?
Importing a file that is saved with Lumion View assets and settings into Lumion Pro is possible. The Lights and Materials applied will seamlessly transfer. However, your scene settings (example: Sun position) need to be adjusted in Lumion Pro.
4.13: Is there a Grace period?
The Grace period is 14 days after the expiry of your Subscription. Please see:

4.14: What access can I expect to my old project once my Subscription expires?
Lumion View: once the License Key is expired, the project is still accessible in the 3D modelling software. However, Lumion View will be inaccessible.
Lumion Pro: once the License Key expires, the projects are still accessible but cannot be edited. Lumion Pro will open in 'Expired Mode'.
4.15: Is there a benefit in renewing rather than letting the Subscription expire?
You maintain an uninterrupted workflow in the products.
5. Lumion Studio Subscriptions:
5.1: How many Seats do I get with Lumion Studio?
For Subscriptions purchased after the 29th of April, you get as many Seats as selected at purchase.
5.2: How many Seats do I get with Lumion Studio when upgraded from Lumion Standard/Pro Subscription?
You get an equal amount of Seats as you own on your current Subscription.
5.3: Can I downgrade to Lumion Pro?
A downgrade is not possible. Please let your License Key expire and purchase a new one for Lumion Pro.

5.5: How many users can I assign to my Lumion Pro License during my Studio Subscription?
You have access to floating Seats, therefore, user assignment is not necessary.
5.6: I own Lumion Studio. Can I add Seats to Lumion View only - separately?
Lumion Studio License Keys have the same number of Seats for both Lumion Pro and Lumion View. Increasing or decreasing the number of Seats will affect both products.
5.7: What happens to my Lumion View Seats if I cancel my Studio Subscription?
This will result in the cancellation of your Lumion View access.
5.8: If I purchase Lumion Studio, do I need to install Lumion View and Lumion Pro separately?
Lumion View and Lumion Pro are two different products and therefore their installation should be separate.
5.9: Why should I choose Studio instead of just buying View and Pro separately?
Lumion Studio offers floating Licenses for the Lumion Pro product.
5.10: How long is the multiplied View Seat benefit (10 Seats for every Pro Seat) active for Studio subscribers?
The offer is available until the 31st of October 2025. After that, your Seats will revert to the number purchased with Lumion Studio.
5.11: Can I resell or transfer unused View or Pro Licenses from my Studio Subscription?
Transferring or reselling is not possible.
5.12: Do Studio floating Seats require user assignment or License activation per device?
No, the License Key is part of the Lumion installation package.
5.13: What happens to my View Seat multiplication (10x) if I increase my Studio Seats mid-term?
The new number of Lumion View Seats is multiplied.
5.14: What happens if a Studio customer doesn’t renew? Do they lose access to both Pro and View immediately?
The Grace period is 14 days after the expiry of your Subscription. Please see:

Lumion View: once the License Key is expired, the project is still accessible in the 3D modelling software. However, Lumion View will be inaccessible.

6. General questions on Subscriptions:
6.1: Can I merge different Lumion Subscriptions together?
Each Subscription can be managed individually in the Lumion Account portal. However, if you have multiple Subscriptions and wish to optimise their management, get in touch with us and we will share with you all the available solutions for you and your team. Merging is, unfortunately, not possible.
6.2: Can I downgrade Seats during my Subscription term?
You can change the number of Seats before the renewal of your Subscription by contacting our Sales team.
6.3: Can I add Seats during my Subscription term?
Yes, that can be done in the Lumion Account portal. The updated renewal pricing will be prorated.
7. User and License management questions:
7.1: How do I assign users to my Subscription?
For named-user License Keys, please see:

If you own a Lumion Studio License Key, user management is not necessary for the floating Seats.
7.2: How do I remove users from my Subscription?
For floating Licenses, uninstall the Lumion Pro version from the user’s PC
For named-user Licenses:
