Updating Lumion:
In prior versions, Lumion required that there was a full application and content file download and install. Except for some specific hotfixes which involved small patches and a somewhat cumbersome process for distributing the update.
With the new Updater, we can now provide updates for fixes and improvements that only involve those changes. This will result in small downloads, quick, easy-to-install updates when not a major version change.
This should make it much easier for you to keep Lumion up to date.
The Updater is part of the Lumion install. you need to have first installed the full version of Lumion 2023.0 or newer.
Applies to:
Lumion 2023, Lumion 2024.0 and newer
1. Lumion will now advise that there is an update ready:
If you want to see what is in a release, then please use the More Info button to take you to our News Section at the Knowledge Base.
All updates are incremental. In other words, if you missed out on installing a prior update then this time around you can catch up on all and get the most recent.
2. Download the Updates:
You then have the option to download the updates in the background while Lumion is running or to skip the download for this Lumion session.
The next time Lumion is started, you will get the same screen with the same options. Please note it is not possible to pick separate updates to download, it will always download all available Updates.
If you choose to download the Updates in the background, then on the Home Screen there is a progress bar. There is no current option to pause the download, in general, because the files are considered very small, so you do not need to pause the Updater download process.
See also Section 7 if there are any issues.
3. Installing the Updates:
Once all the downloads are completed, you will have the option to install them. This will close Lumion, giving you the option to save your Project file for current work done and start the Updates Installer. The Updates Installer will wait until Lumion is fully closed, before starting the installation process.
Install Now option once downloaded:
When you select to install and click on the Install Now button, you will be given the usual options in Lumion to Exit or Save and Exit.
Click on either the Exit button if you do not wish to carry on using Lumion immediately.
Else click on the Start Lumion button.
See also Section 7 if there are any issues.
4. Setting for the Auto-Update in the Background:
In the Settings menu, you now also have the option to always download updates in the background. This disables the Updates Notification Screen.
Lumion will still display the download progress bar, so you know that the updates are downloading in the background.
5. Multi-user Installations and the Updater:
This Updater version supports updaters directly to each Lumion installation. Corporate, multi-installation using silent updating, where there are no local administrator privileges, or where there is a Group Policy to restrict local installs is currently not available.
